Indus Data Center Hub is a large-scale energy-integrated data center development planned near Indus in Rocky View County, Alberta. The campus is designed to support large workloads and high-performance computing through co-located data halls, dedicated on-site natural-gas generation, resilient energy infrastructure and long-term regional investment.
About the site
From the outset, the project has been designed to fit responsibly within its surroundings. The campus is planned with substantial infrastructure setbacks, coordinated environmental oversight and modern water and noise management systems intended to reduce impacts on nearby residents and agricultural operations.
The campus is intended to bring high-quality construction and operations employment, significant local and provincial tax generation, supply-chain opportunities for Alberta companies, and new infrastructure that strengthens the province’s role in the future of advanced technology.
Responsible Development
Power
The Indus project is built around Beacon’s bring-your-own-power model. Under normal operating scenarios, the generation facility is expected to supply approximately 1,200 MWe of power to co- located, on-site data halls, helping support large-scale digital infrastructure while reducing reliance on the public grid. The project combines 100 INNIO Jenbacher J624 reciprocating engines, grouped in 20 QPAC modules, with 12 Siemens SGT-800 natural gas-fired turbines and associated heat recovery steam generators supplying four Siemens SST-500 condensing steam turbines in three combined-cycle units.
Water
Estimated daily water use across data center operations and power generation is up to 1,500 cubic metres per day. Planned water use is from municipal resources, not agricultural irrigation sources. While large numbers can sound significant in isolation, this level of water use is comparable to many existing industrial, commercial and municipal activities already common across Alberta. For context, it is similar to the daily water demand of a modest food-processing facility, a mid-sized golf course during irrigation season, or a community of roughly 5,000 to 7,000 residents.
Beacon’s approach is to engage early with the local water authority, model available supply carefully, and pursue state-of-the-art water-management options, including potential grey-water use and closed-loop systems.
Land
Beacon recognizes that farmland conversion is important to Albertans and takes the issue seriously. Where projects include adjacent lands that remain outside the developed footprint, Beacon expects those parcels to remain in agriculture where practical.
Noise
Modern data centers and power-generation facilities are significantly quieter than many traditional industrial operations.
The Indus campus is being designed with acoustic mitigation integrated into the site layout from the beginning, including equipment placement, engineered sound attenuation systems and substantial setbacks between major infrastructure and surrounding properties.
While final sound modelling and equipment selection are ongoing, the project is intended to operate within applicable provincial and municipal noise requirements. At surrounding property lines, projected sound levels are expected to be comparable to typical rural roadway noise or common household background sounds such as a dishwasher or refrigerator.
Noise monitoring and mitigation requirements will also form part of the project’s regulatory review and approval processes.

What is Sturgeon County’s role in the project?
Sturgeon County has issued a Master Development Permit for development of an 800 MW data center with a corresponding 920 MWe gas-powered generation facility on lands zoned Heavy Industrial District.
